Con más de 700 participantes, durante el XII Congreso Colombiano de Parasitología y Medicina Tropical, programado entre el 3-6 de noviembre pasado, se desarrollaron dos simposios y un curso precongreso, adicionalmente se presentaron 8 conferencias magistrales, 9 simposios con 33 participantes, 98 presentaciones libres y 96 presentaciones en cartel, totalizando 250 presentaciones científicas de investigadores nacionales y extranjeros en tópicos como malaria, dengue, leishmaniasis, parasitismo intestinal, enfermedad de Chagas, tuberculosis y otras enfermedades tropicales endémicas. Sin lugar a dudas, el XII Congreso constituyó una importante estrategia para la apropiación social de los resultados de investigación con miras a su utilización en procura del mejoramiento de la salud y calidad de vida de las comunidades afectadas por las enfermedades tropicales.

It gives us a great pleasure to invite you to participate in the III International Congress on Congenital Toxoplasmosis 2007 scheduled to take place in Montenegro (Quindío), Colombia, May 13-16, 2007.

It will be a great opportunity for scientific discussions concerning the major problems of congenital toxoplasmosis and toxoplasmosis fields including Genetics, Ocular Disease, Pharmacokinetics and Vaccinology. We are very happy that many excellent and well-known and eminent speakers from all over the world has accepted the invitation of the Organizing and Scientific Committees to give lectures during III ICOCT 2007. Much breakthrough knowledge about Toxoplasma and toxoplasmosis has occurred during the last year that will give us the occasion for an intense discussion and important proposals for collaborative research as the new data about genotypes distribution in America and Europe, the metanalysis results for congenital toxoplasmosis treatment (SYROCOT) and new data from metanalysis and RCT in ocular toxoplasmosis.

We hope also to receive a significant number of abstracts in order to have an intensive scientific interaction. We invite you to present your experience concerning clinical, diagnostics and therapeutic aspects of toxoplasmosis.

   Como un reconocimiento a las labores relacionadas con el control de la enfermedad de Chagas en América Latina, el socio activo de la Sociedad Colombiana de Parasitología y Medicina Tropical, Dr. Alvaro Moncayo Medina, fue elegido por unanimidad y por aclamación como Miembro Honorario Extranjero de la Academia Nacional de Medicina de Brasil, en la sesión del 3 de noviembre de 2005, según comunicación enviada por el Dr. Antonio Luiz de Medina, presidente de la Academia y el Académico José Rodrigues Coura.
